Positionless Basketball is Socialist

No defined roles, everyone on the court shooting three pointers, switching everything on defense: the Soviets have won. The NBA has seen an exponential growth in the amount of international players in the past decade. At the same time the game has shifted towards a more positionless game. This may seem like a coincidence, but it is actually caused by different sociological theories that are at the backbone of every country.

Simply put the USA is a more conservative country that aligns more with Functionalist theory. Basically this theory is that everybody does their own separate job because it needs to be done. Garbage men take the garbage away, doctors perform surgery, pilots fly planes, and they’re all essential. They work at what they do and get better at these things. American basketball players have followed suit. Guards handle the ball, pass, and shoot from outside. Forwards are running the floor to get to the hoop and sometimes shoot from outside. Big men get rebounds and protect the paint. This goes completely out the window in Europe where they are far more liberal with ideas backed by Socialist theory. In countries that have policies where it’s okay for people to be exploring a route they want to because the government bails them out if they’re not financially successful. Basketball mutates in this world behind the idea that all players can try mastering the skills set aside for other positions. If a big guy wants to bring the ball up and do crossovers, that’s fine as long as he has fun. This seems harmless until it makes the NBA an unrecognizable form of European basketball.

How has this infiltrated our shores if we are still the best in the world though? Why would we change our league or style if we dominate with it every time it comes to international competition (when we actually send our best players)? Socialists are trying to cause unrest in our nation by ruining our pastime: the all American sport of basketball. If they taint our leisure time they will grow the divide in this country and strike when we least expect. Clearly this all comes back to the man who invented positionless basketball: Vladimir Putin.
